This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge generation interconnection and renewable energy projects while shaping the future of the electrical grid. The Senior Power Systems Engineer will contribute to modeling, analysis, and design of transmission lines, substations, and renewable generation systems, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance. You will leverage advanced software tools, including PSS/E, PSCAD, and ASPEN, to perform detailed studies and support clients across multiple Independent System Operators (ISOs). The position combines hands-on engineering work, problem-solving, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and resilient energy solutions. Additionally, you will stay informed on industry trends, compliance requirements, and emerging technologies, driving innovation and best practices within the team.

Accountabilities

As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Conduct interconnection studies and due diligence, evaluating transmission line and substation capacity, costs, and timelines.
  • Create, validate, and maintain models for renewable generation projects, including Solar PV, BESS, and Wind systems.
  • Perform power system analyses such as load flow, transient stability, reactive power compensation, short circuit, protection coordination, and voltage analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, NERC/FERC requirements, and ISO-specific standards.
  • Support generation developer clients in navigating the interconnection process across different ISOs.
  • Design and review Preliminary Site Layouts, Single Line Diagrams, and 30% Design Packages using AutoCAD.
  • Prepare and submit Generation Interconnection Applications to ISOs as needed.
  • Stay current on emerging energy technologies, software tools, and best practices in power systems engineering.

Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • 5+ years of experience in generation interconnection and compliance-related activities.
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Expertise in the generation interconnection process across multiple ISOs, particularly ERCOT MQT.
  • Strong foundation in power system fundamentals and analytical software tools (PSS/E, PSCAD, ASPEN).
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems including Solar PV, BESS, and Wind.
  • Excellent attention to detail, proactive learning, and adaptability to new technologies and complex engineering challenges.
  • Strong customer focus, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Comfort working independently and outside of the traditional comfort zone when solving complex technical problems.
