This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of IonQ. We are currently looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Backend), Cloud Platform in the United States.

This role is ideal for a highly skilled software engineer who will contribute to building and maintaining a scalable, robust cloud platform connecting users to advanced computing systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams—including product, applications, infrastructure, and scientific teams—to create high-quality, reliable services and APIs for a diverse range of users. This position offers the opportunity to mentor junior engineers, drive technical excellence, and influence the platform architecture in a fast-paced, collaborative, and remote-friendly environment. Your work will directly impact the usability and performance of cutting-edge cloud computing services, supporting the next generation of computing technologies.

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and highly available cloud platform components.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, applications, infrastructure, and scientific) to deliver reliable services and APIs.
• Lead the implementation of software experiences that cater to both novice and expert users.
• Participate in on-call rotations to support platform reliability.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering knowledge sharing and technical growth.
• Contribute to architecture and design discussions, ensuring best practices in software engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with large-scale cloud service platforms and building robust, scalable services.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Go and Python (multiple languages a plus).
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Postgres, MongoDB).
• Familiarity with cloud-native environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes, serverless).
• Ability to design and implement critical application components, including UX, APIs, exception handling, security, and data access.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills, with proven experience in cross-functional team projects.
• Preferred: 10+ years professional full-stack experience, 5+ years Kubernetes experience, OAuth/OpenID/SAML authentication experience, prior Google Cloud Platform development experience.
